COLLEGE OF COMPUTING AND INFORMATION SCIENCES

Excellence in Technology Education and Innovation

History of CCIS

The College of Computing and Information Sciences (CCIS) is the newest college department of Bohol Island State University – Balilihan Campus (BISU-Balilihan).

Before its establishment, the programs under CCIS were once part of the College of Technology and Allied Sciences (CTAS) during the early years of BISU Balilihan. CTAS housed several programs such as Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT), Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS), Bachelor of Science in Electrical Technology, Bachelor of Science in Electronics Technology, and Bachelor of Science in Food Technology – Major in Food Preparation and Services.

In 2024, to strengthen the university’s commitment to computing and information technology education, the BSIT and BSCS programs were separated from CTAS, marking the establishment of the College of Computing and Information Sciences (CCIS). The first dean of CCIS was Dr. Benjamin N. Omamalin, who later assumed the position of University Director of Instruction. Following his appointment, Dr. Shella C. Olaguir became the second and current dean of the college, continuing its vision of producing globally competent graduates through excellence in computing education, research, and innovation.

In the early years of CCIS, the college held its very first CCIS Big Day in 2025, a year after its foundation. In addition, CCIS was able to establish another student organization, the Computer Science Guild (CSGuild), as the official organization for Computer Science students. Through various college-led activities, CCIS students actively engage in programs that further enhance their skills, learning, and professional development in the field of computing—bringing the name of our newest college proud and loud.
